Incentive trip to Morocco: a private villa or riad instead of a hotel
By Charlotte Schoeters · · 6 min read
An incentive trip that people talk about for years: what a private villa or riad in Morocco offers that a hotel cannot, what it costs and how to organise it.
An incentive trip is a trip an employer offers as a reward, for example to a top-performing team or after a strong year. Morocco works well for Belgian and Dutch teams: a short flight, sun in spring and autumn, and a culture that feels far from home. With exclusive use of a private villa or riad, the group has the place to itself instead of sharing a hotel with strangers.
Why a private villa or riad instead of a hotel?
In a hotel your team is one group among many. In a private villa or riad the whole house is yours: one long table, your own pool, a chef who cooks only for you and no one else at breakfast. That is exactly what makes an incentive feel like a reward rather than a business trip.
- Exclusive use: every room and space belongs to your group
- A private chef: Moroccan and Mediterranean cooking, dietary needs taken care of
- A programme around the group: yoga, a hike in the Atlas mountains, a hammam, a cooking class, or simply time by the pool
- One point of contact who arranges everything, from the airport to the last dinner
Our two places
The villa in Marrakech sleeps up to 10 guests in five air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own bathroom with a rain shower. It lies very quietly among olive trees, with a big garden and a heated pool, 30 minutes from the airport. The riad in Essaouira sleeps up to 12 guests in six bedrooms, close to the ocean and the medina, 15 minutes from Essaouira airport. Bigger group? Because everything is tailor-made, we look for a suitable venue for 20 people or more.

- Day 2: morning Yogilates, free afternoon by the pool, Yin yoga at sunset

- Day 4: a workshop or team session in the morning, a hammam or massage in the afternoon, farewell dinner
- Day 5: one last class, breakfast and departure
Is an incentive trip taxable?
In Belgium an incentive trip offered as a reward is in principle a benefit in kind for the employee, and the tax treatment depends on how the trip is set up and documented. A programme with a clear professional or preventive content (team sessions, stress management, breathwork) is treated differently from a purely touristic reward. Check the details with your accountant or social secretariat before you book.
