Team weekend or midweek: which team retreat suits your team?
By Charlotte Schoeters · · 6 min read
Two to four days away with your team, in Belgium or abroad. The difference between a weekend and a midweek, a sample programme and what to watch out for.
A team weekend or midweek is a retreat of two to four days in which a team stays somewhere together, with yoga, good food, rest and time for team sessions. A midweek runs on working days and feels like part of the job; a weekend uses free time and feels more like a gift. Both can be organised tailor-made, in Belgium or abroad.
Weekend or midweek: the differences
- Working time: a midweek takes place on working days, a weekend on free days (agree on how that is compensated)
- Price: venues are often cheaper midweek, flights too
- Atmosphere: a midweek leaves room for strategy or team sessions, a weekend feels more like a reward
- Participation: people with young children find weekends harder to free up; a midweek is often easier to plan
How long should a team retreat be?
One night gives a nice break, but most of the effect comes from the second day: that is when people really let go of work. Two to three nights is the sweet spot for most teams in Belgium. For a retreat abroad, four nights is ideal, so that travel days do not take over.
A sample programme: midweek of 2 nights
- Day 1: arrival in the afternoon, a gentle yoga class, dinner together
- Day 2: morning Yogilates, a team or strategy session, a walk or activity in the afternoon, Yin yoga in the evening
- Day 3: a breathwork class, a short reflection on what the team takes back, lunch and departure
In Belgium or abroad?
In Belgium the threshold is low: no flights, easy to plan, and a good fit for a first retreat. Abroad the effect is bigger, because the change of scenery helps people switch off. Yogavibe organises both: in Belgium on a location that suits the group and the budget, and in Morocco in our private villa in Marrakech or riad in Essaouira, from €950 per person and from 6 people.
Every weekend and midweek is put together tailor-made: location, programme, catering and group size depend on your team and budget. Tell us what you have in mind via the custom retreats page.
